Do not call me “man”, “dude” or “bro”.
I realize that a lot of people have come to think of them as non-gendered colloquialisms, but they are still obviously rooted in maleness, and thus I don’t want them attributed to me.
Please and thank you.
That’s the only way that I treat trans women different from everyone else, in that they are the only people I will not call Dude. Admittedly it deviates from my whole “treat them like any other woman” policy, but in a way that causes less discomfort, so I do my best.
Yeah, what Maevele said. I sort of call everyone dude. I call my female friends dude while speaking Spanish.
But also (and I’m really sorry if this sounds suspiciously like one of those “I’m sorry you were offended” faux apologies) English is pretty obviously not my native language and sometimes I fail to pick up on these things. Gender in English really doesn’t work the same way as in Spanish. So if something like this flies right over my head, I’m really sorry, and I promise to try to remember it if you point it out.
